James A. Blackburn

Project Senior Manager

Adjunct Professor and Research Scientist James A. Blackburn, PhD, focuses on issues related to normative cognitive functioning among the elderly and family relationships. Before coming to the University of Michigan School of Social Work, he was a professor in the School of Social Work at Hunter College from 2004 to 2016 and dean of the School of Social Work at Hunter College from 2004 to 2006. Prior to his tenure at Hunter College, he served as dean and professor of the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 1991 to 2004.

During his years at the School of Social Work at Hunter College, he taught courses in administration and planning, research methods, and human development. He has been involved for many years with the Council on Social Work Education serving on the Board of Directors and Commission on Accreditation. In 1999, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Human Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
