South Oxford Space (Managed by A.R.T./New York)
138 South Oxford StreetBrooklyn, NY 11217
USA
Agency Type: Arts
Established 2000
One of the critical issues facing theaters today is the need for affordable office space. Without an appropriate office, it is impossible for companies to continue to grow, to expand their artistic programming, to effectively manage their time, and in some instances, to hire a staff or find interns. In order to assist with this growing problem, in January 2000, the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) purchased South Oxford Space in the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn.
South Oxford Space is a five-story office building designed to provide office space to small and mid-size companies at below-market rate rent and is fully occupied by 20 theater companies. In addition to providing individual offices, the building includes a variety of shared facilities and amenities such as a conference room, mail room with postage meter, kitchen, rehearsal studios, and copy and fax machines. Spaces at 520 (A Project of Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York)
575 Eight Ave., Suite 1720,New York, NY 10018
USA
Agency Type: Arts
Established 2003
The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York), the leadership organization for New York City's not-for-profit theatres, has been at the forefront of developing shared office space facilities for use by the not-for-profit theatre and arts communities. Their first project, South Oxford Space, is located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and is home to 20 small theater companies. Based on its success, they embarked on Spaces at 520, a larger and more ambitious project in mid-town Manhattan; it was almost completely paid for using public funds.
What began as 32,000 square feet of raw space has become a beautiful facility that provides permanent offices to 25 organizations. In addition, there are a number of shared amenities including a kitchen, copy room, and three rehearsal studios, one of which can be used for meetings and other events. Tenant organizations include the Arts and Business Council Inc., Business Volunteers for the Arts, National Alliance for Musical Theatre, National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, High Tide Dance, and Voice and Vision Theater. Established 1983
The Partnership Center is a nationally innovative one-stop caring center serving homeless and near homeless individuals through user-friendly services under one roof.
The Partnership Center's 100,000-square-foot building is being renovated into a one-stop care center to reverse homeless growth in St. Louis. Renovation costs are $8.2 million over five years.
