The Perry School Community Services Center was created and is operated by residents of low-income communities in Washington, D.C., to address conditions of chronic poverty in their communities. The center brings together 12 autonomous but collaborating agencies providing services in health, day care, art and dance, tutoring, computer learning, after-school and summer camp programs, college preparation, social services, job training, counseling and placement, emergency assistance, and other community services.

The primary service area of the Perry Center is bounded by 7th Street, NW on the west, Florida Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue on the north, 2nd Street, NE and the railroad tracks on the east, and Louisiana, Constitution, and Pennsylvania Avenues on the south. [Text adapted from website]

The Preble Street Resource Center strives to provide accessible barrier-free services to empower people experiencing problems with homelessness, housing, hunger, and poverty; and to advocate for solutions to these problems. The PSRC is the lead agency in the Community Resource Center, a holistic and collaborative approach to serving homeless and low-income people in Portland, Maine. The partners in the CRC are Portland Public Health, Mercy Hospital, Wayside Soup Kitchen, and St. Luke's Soup Kitchen.

The PSRC is also the lead agency in the Teen Center Collaborative, an alternative comprehensive approach to serving homeless and runaway youth. The partners at the teen center are Portland Public Health, YWCA, Portland Adult Ed, and Day One.

Preble Street Resource Center's own programs include Stone Soup--an entrepreneurial effort to provide jobs and job training at their restaurant/retail space at the Portland Public Market and coming soon to Congress Street. [Text adapted from website]

Oakland, California's Preservation Park includes 16 historic buildings that house 45 mostly nonprofit organizations (and like-minded businesses) with environmental and cultural goals that are making vital contributions to the community. The park's turn-of-the-century buildings, which have been renovated with the facades restored, are set among manicured lawns and lush plantings, complete with Victorian park benches and street lamps. The Redstone Tenants Association was formed by the tenants of San Francisco's Redstone Building in 1999 with the intent of safeguarding the building from exploitative development and preserving it as the home of numerous San Francisco nonprofit cultural, social service and activist organizations, artist studios, and small local businesses. Members of the RTA are currently working together and collaborating with outside local organizations to:

- Promote the interests of the Redstone Tenants

- Explore and pursue all opportunities that would give the RTA ownership or control over Redstone Building

- Serve the Mission Community

- Preserve the Redstone Building as an historic landmark
