Neighborhood House (In Development)

Neighborhood House (In Development)

179 Robie Street East
St. Paul, MN 55107-2360
USA

Agency Type: Mixed--by design/plan

The founding of Neighborhood House in 1897 signaled St. Paul, Minnesota’s participation in the settlement house movement; they focused on basic services to immigrant families in the neighborhoods where they lived and in collaboration with many other organizations. Now, more than a century later, Neighborhood House has served 50 different ethnic groups and still maintains its settlement house philosophy and services.

In the near future, the newly planned 93,000-square-foot facility will provide abundant meeting and gathering space for cultural, artistic, social, educational, performance, recreational, and civic activities for people of all backgrounds. Additionally, this expansion will enable Neighborhood House to serve as an education and training center through on-site programming and distance learning; it will afford shared space for other organizations and increase access to their services. By bringing new people into Neighborhood House and the District del Sol, they are fulfilling their mission and contributing directly to the economic development and revitalization of the West Side of Saint Paul. Ninth Street Independent Film Center

145 Ninth Street, Suite 310
San Francisco, CA 94103
USA

Agency Type: Arts

Established 1983

The roots of the Ninth Street Independent Film Center go back to 1983, when Film Arts Foundation, the Bay Area's leading membership organization of independent filmmakers, and National Asian American Telecommunications Association, an organization dedicated to Asian Pacific American media, first moved into a small portion of a building at 346 Ninth Street (two blocks from the current location). Frameline, which has long been at the forefront of LGBT media, followed in 1991, and the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, the first and largest festival of its kind, came aboard in 1995.

Now, the Ninth Street Independent Film Center at 145 Ninth Street provides a permanent home for independent media in the San Francisco Bay Area. It has transformed nearly 22,000 square feet of industrial space into a state-of-the-art, publicly accessible nonprofit film center. [Text adapted from website]
