Marin Headlands
Building 201, 3rd floorFort Mason
San Francisco, CA 94123
USA
Agency Type: Environmental
The Marin Headlands are one of the more remarkable destinations within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area outside of San Francisco. The National Park Service works with various nonprofit partners to provide programs to help visitors discover all that the Headlands has to offer. These programs interpret the area's rich natural and cultural history and provide services. Also, most park partners operate in important historic buildings, helping preserve these priceless landmarks. [Text adapted from website]

MarinSpace
30 North San Pedro Rd., Suite 195San Rafael, CA 94903
USA
Agency Type: Mixed--by design/plan
Established 1991
For over 10 years, MarinSpace has successfully and cost-effectively provided stable, affordable, mission-enhancing space to five child and family service agencies as owner and operator of 70 Skyview Terrace, in Terra Linda. In January 2004, under a lease agreement with the Marin Community Foundation, MarinSpace began operating two additional nonprofit center buildings in San Rafael--555 Northgate Drive, which houses health and human service organizations, and 30 North San Pedro Road, also called the Marin Justice Center.
MarinSpace supports the creation of Multi-Tenant Nonprofit Centers through acquiring or master leasing new properties, helping other organizations with their real estate development projects, and advocating for the real estate needs of the nonprofit sector. The equity they own in their buildings stays in the public sector in perpetuity. As a 501©3 public benefit organization, they do not speculate in the real estate market. Like a land trust, they are a public vehicle for long-term, community-based ownership of nonprofit facilities. [Text adapted from website]

Minnesota Shubert Theater
516 Hennepin AvenueMinneapolis, MN 55403
USA
Agency Type: Arts
Established 1998
Minneapolis agreed to pay for the relocation of this historic theater, if Artspace, a nonprofit organization promoting space for the arts, would take the long-neglected 1910 theater under its wing and pay for renovation and subsequently manage the theater. As a part of the plan, Artspace developed a design that incorporates the Shubert Theater with the Hennepin Center for the Arts (Artspace headquarters), thus creating a unique regional performing arts center called the Minnesota Shubert Performing Arts and Education Center.
The recent relocation of the Shubert Theater offers this stalwart landmark a chance at a new life--providing the people of the Twin Cities a performance center and bringing tremendous enhancement to Hennepin Avenue. [Text adapted from website]
