Loudoun Cares (In Development)

Loudoun Cares (In Development)

P.O. Box 83
Leesburg, VA 20178
USA

Agency Type: Mixed--by design/plan

This project's mission is to create and sustain a nonprofit human service center that includes comprehensive information and referral services benefiting residents in Leesburg, Virginia. This will involve finding a site, most likely in Leesburg, and building a multi-tenant nonprofit center. The center will provide stable, affordable office space, while enhancing the tenants' operations and promoting their missions. In doing so, the net contribution to society by these organizations working together is greater and more cost-effective than what they might have achieved without the facilitation of a nonprofit center.

Current partner agencies include the American Red Cross of Loudoun, Brain Injury Services, La Voz, Loudoun Interfaith Relief, and Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers. [Text adapted from website]

Louisville Central Community Centers, Inc. (In Development)

Louisville Central Community Centers, Inc. (In Development)

1300 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd.
Louisville, KY 40203
USA

Agency Type: Mixed--by design/plan

Established 1948

LCCC was established in 1948 as the Market Street Neighborhood House, steeped in the tradition of the settlement house movement. In 1952, LCCC formed a board of directors, incorporated, and in 1975 expanded services to include the historic Russell Neighborhood and surrounding inner-city neighborhoods. The building, part of Old Walnut Street Development, is located on W. Muhammad Ali Blvd.

This second phase of LCCC's economic development initiative is spurred by the agency's dream to rekindle the entrepreneurial and community spirit that existed along the old Walnut Street corridor before Urban Renewal.

Restoration of the outside of the building began in April 2004. In addition to the renovations, over 32,000 square feet have been set aside for a major corporation that will provide up to 200 jobs. The site will house the community center's arts education programs, youth development, adult education, and job readiness training. Other planned facilities will include a theater and a conference and banquet hall with meeting rooms, and over 52,000-square-feet has been set aside to support small business development. Marian Center Marian Center

Marian Center

3195 S. Superior Street
Milwaukee, WI 53207
USA

Agency Type: Mixed

Established 1998

The Marian Center, an independent Catholic corporation sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, assists Milwaukee nonprofit organizations by offering them affordable rental space. Its mission, reflecting Franciscan values and tradition, is carried out in the activities of the tenants, which promote human development through education, the arts, and social justice. These organizations are located in a former Catholic girls high school. The center was renovated in 1998 to include office spaces despite financial pressures to consider the more lucrative, commercial real estate market. This Franciscan corporation remained committed to assisting others who shared similar values. Facilities available for hourly rental to the public include a multi-purpose room, a gym, and an auditorium. [Text adapted from website]
