Arthur S. Flemming Center (Managed by Emmaus Services for the Aging)
Fourth Floor1426 9th St.,
Washington, D.C. 20001
USA
Agency Type: Human Services--General or Mixed
Established 2002
Emmaus Services for the Aging was founded by five churches in downtown Washington, D.C., to connect isolated older people with the services they need to live independently in their homes. The Flemming Center renovation project is "breaking new ground" metaphorically. Three decrepit buildings in an urban neighborhood are being given new life. In turn, the Flemming Center represents a ground-breaking era for Emmaus. For the first time in its 23-year history, Emmaus will have a place to call its own. Harking back to the years when Emmaus rented space from other organizations and churches at below-market rates, Emmaus is returning the favor by subleasing space to a diverse group of social service organizations. By bringing together like-minded organizations that attract different age groups, the Flemming Center will be a place of intergenerational activity.
