Community Assessment Findings
In addition to member recruitment and organizational development, New Visions has conducted a series of community assessments in Korean and South Asian communities, as well as domestic violence programs in southeast Michigan, to help identify strategies to engage the communities better and to understand current perceptions, socio-cultural factors, and resources related to domestic violence. These assessments also explored challenges and promising strategies for domestic violence programs in working with Asian communities. In October 2004, New Visions held its kick-off event, “Communities for Change: Working Together to End the Silence,” in which the results of the assessments were presented through skits and other interactive methods.
With this understanding, we will be able to work with the members of the Asian communities and the domestic violence programs to develop and implement community-based programs for preventing violence.
