International Funding

International funding is often provided through public and private philanthropies that are global in scope and interests. This section of GRANTS, ETC. includes descriptions of funding sources, some searchable databases, and information on gifting opportunities for individual and institutional donors.

Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium (APPC)
The APPC site includes essays on the history, legal frameworks, and current philanthropic priorities for 12 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Included is a searchable list of major foundations serving the region.

CharityNet
Charitynet is a service of the U.K.-based Charities Aid Foundation. Its express purpose is to link charities world-wide. The Foundations website allows you to access nearly 400 foundations, many of which provide multi-national funding. Others target specific overseas locales.

European Foundation Centre (EFC)
The European Foundation Centre defines itself as the gathering point for independent funders active in and with Europe. Established by seven of Europe's leading foundations, its membership now includes more than 350 philanthropy initiatives and more than 50,000 organizations linked through a network of information centers worldwide. Use the site's Knowledge Resources to access information on EFC funder databases or to access information on philanthropy in E.U. countries through a number of online publications. The EFC also sponsors Funders Online, with its searchable database of national and local centers throughout the European Community.

Foundation Center
The Foundation Center's site includes a listing of American and international foundations that fund projects around the world, plus a number of overseas-based foundations that fund in their own countries or regions. These include Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, Georgia, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latin America, the Middle East, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. Periodic updates are found in current and recent issues of the Center's e-journal, Philanthropy News.

Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS)
WINGS is a global network of more than 100 membership associations and support organizations serving grantmakers and contributing to the strengthening of philanthropy worldwide. Its two sub-units are: WINGS-CF (organizations supporting the development and work of community foundations) and WINGS-CI (organizations supporting the work of corporate grantmakers and promoting new corporate social investment). Network Profiles, allows you to locate the names of foundations and corporate funders through a search of program reports and policy papers.
