Geriatric social work is one of the fastest growing career fields. The number of older persons in the United States will more than double between the years 2000–2030. As the population ages, employment opportunities in gerontological social work are expanding greatly. Geriatric social work offers endless possibilities to make a difference in people's lives and limitless opportunities for advancement.
Special Features of the Geriatric Scholarship Program
Student Partial Tuition Awards from $20,000 to $40,000 Total Aid
- Non-resident partial tuition award: $10,000 per semester ($40,000 total award)
- Resident partial tuition award: $5,000 per semester ($20,000 total award)
Specialized Geriatric Courses
- A one-term integrative, multidisciplinary seminar
- Policies and Services for the Elderly
- Adulthood and Aging
- Social Work with the Elderly
- Mental Health and Mental Disorders of Adults and the Elderly
Fieldwork Rotations
- Fieldwork rotations, beginning in the fall term, at 2 or 3 sites with at least one located in Detroit. Fieldwork is designed to expose students to a range of practice interventions on behalf of elderly in rural and urban settings and in direct service and policy and management environments.
