Desmond Runyan

Desmond Runyan is Professor, Departments of Social Medicine and Pediatrics, School of Medicine, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his MPH and MD from the University of Minnesota and his DrPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Runyan is Medical Director of the North Carolina Child Medical Evaluation Program and Director of the Preventive Medicine Residency Program, UNC School of Medicine. He was a member of the National Faculty, The American Humane Association Children's Division and the National Training Faculty, Action for Child Protection Inc.

Among his research grants are: "LONGSCAN: The Longitudinal Studies Coordinating Center" from the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect; "Precursors of Violent Behavior in Maltreated and At Risk Children" from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention; "Family Functioning in Stressed and Maltreating Families" from NICHD; and "Nurturing the World Studies of Abuse and Family Environment," from the International Clinical Epidemiology Network. He serves on the Editorial Boards of Child Maltreatment and Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal and on the National Family Violence Advisory Council, AMA He is also helping to organize an International Protocol on Child Abuse.
