Summer "To Do" Checklist
The following are tasks that incoming students should be sure to complete before entering the SSW program:
General steps that students can complete now
- Obtain a uniqname and password.
- Obtain a U-M Student ID Card.
- Check UMICH email (ongoing).
- Provide the Office of Student Services with final undergraduate and/or graduate transcript(s), if necessary.
- Completely review Campus Personal Information (addresses, emergency contacts, etc.), found in the Student Business section of Wolverine Access.
- Secure housing.
- Review health insurance options.
- Review tuition insurance option.
- Review tuition and cost of attendance.
- Review financial aid information via Student Business in Wolverine Access.
- Review resources for students with disabilities (optional).
- Review parking and transportation services if living far from campus (optional).
- Complete steps to appeal a residency decision, if necessary.
- Review football ticket information (optional).
New Student Program and course registration steps
- Contact the Office of Student Services to set a course registration appointment.
- Contact the Office of Student Services to set up a web-based group advising session (required)
- Contact the Office of Student Services to sign up for a new student program session (strongly recommended)
- Read the 2009-10 Student Guide to the MSW Program.
- Review the Course Planning Worksheet for the applicable concentration (practice method/practice area) and curriculum schedule.
- Verify that the practice method, practice area, and curriculum schedule signed up for are correct.
- Become familiar with Wolverine Access (for registering) and the www.ssw.umich.edu website, which has the most complete course information.
- Review course listings and descriptions for fall term 2009.
- Read the frequently asked questions from the School of Social Work Registrar’s Office.
- Complete a web-based group academic planning session
- Backpack planned course schedule via Wolverine Access.
- Complete registration for courses via Wolverine Access.
- Review class schedule following registration for accuracy.
Steps to complete regarding field instruction
- Read the Field Placement Instructions.
- Participate in a field web session (select session when you call for registration appointment).
- Review the Student Orientation to Field Instruction.
- Read the Field Instruction Manual.
- Read the Field Instruction Agency Placement Listings.
- Review Frequently Asked Questions for field instruction.
- Send field placement resume to the Career Center (link to micwoods@umich.edu) to be reviewed (optional)
- Complete the Placement Request Application, due July 10,2009. For students starting their field placement in fall 2009, including 20-month students, advanced standing students, transfer students, students interested in a national or international field placement, Geriatric Scholars, National Community Scholars, and out-of-sequence 16-month students only.
Note: Most 16-month curriculum students will complete the field placement process in September/October 2009 and will begin fieldwork in January 2010.
