Welcome

We are looking forward to welcoming new MSW students to our social work community in the fall. This website contains numerous items, including a summer "to do" checklist, to assist students in planning the beginning of their graduate professional education in social work at the University of Michigan. It is important that students review all of these materials at the earliest date possible.

Of particular importance is the Student Guide to the Master's in Social Work Degree Program 2009-10, which is required reading. Students should read the section "Your MSW Program: Guidelines for Course Planning" before planning a course schedule for the fall term. All students should contact the Office of Student Services to schedule a registration appointment date/time after paying the enrollment deposit.

Students may choose to attend one of the new student programs being held during the summer. Please see the Summer 2009 New Student Programs schedule for details. However, all incoming MSW students must plan to attend the fall orientation program scheduled for Wednesday, September 2—Friday, September 4, as there will be events/presentations that are not included in the summer new student program. Please see the fall orientation schedule for specific details.

All students should participate in a web-based group advising session prior to registering this summer. Individual courses planning session can also be schedule for students who would like to take advantage of this option. Students will be given the name of their faculty advisor at fall orientation on September 3rd. All incoming students must plan to meet with their faculty advisor early in the fall term 2009. All incoming students must register online using Wolverine Access before the first day of class, September 8, 2009 to avoid a late registration fee.

We hope this information and the materials provided will be helpful when planning for the fall term. Both our summer new student program sessions and our fall orientation program are designed to provide ample time to answer questions. Current students will be available to serve as a resource. As always, please be sure to contact the Office of Student Services with any questions. We look forward to seeing everyone in Ann Arbor soon.
